In order for text in your design to be easily customizable on site, it is important that this is set up properly in your files. See below for text formatting and best practices to optimize your design in our customizer.
MINIMUM FONT SIZE
The font minimums listed on our Minted Font List refer to the smallest point size that Minted allows for each font in our library across all casing styles. These minimums have been chosen so that each font is clearly legible when printed. If a font in a submitted design is below our minimum point size, our team will increase it to meet our standards.
These standards are in place to avoid legibility/delivery issues when the envelope is sent through the mail.
- Envelope minimums: For fonts used on the matching envelope, the font point size minimum is required to be at least 2 points above the standard set minimum.
- All in One address minimums: For fonts used for the addressing on the back of an All in One Wedding Invitation, the font point size minimum is required to be at least 1 point above the standard set minimum, 2 points preferred if possible.
USE WHOLE VALUES ONLY
Editable text sizes are required to be set to whole point values. This is a technical requirement for our site - if the text size is not set to a whole point value, the text will be rounded to a whole number, which creates visual inconsistencies across the site.
SEPARATE TEXT BOXES
Due to the way our customizer works, all text in each text box must have the same settings applied (i.e. font, font size, font color, leading, tracking, etc.). For this example below, you’ll notice the differing font styles (placed in different text boxes) and how it appears in our customizer.
*NOTE: To ensure easier customization of your design, please try to place the name or family name in its own text box in your files if possible.
KEEP TEXT EDITABLE (WHEN POSSIBLE)
Minted customers love editing text to customize designs, so we encourage designers to keep text in editable (non-outlined) form as often as much as possible. Our customizer unfortunately cannot accommodate the following as editable text, so please outline text in your files in these situations.
AVOID TEXT EFFECTS
Our customizer cannot accommodate warped effects, so please do not apply this effect to text.
NOTE: Make sure to extend your textboxes to the edge of the inner guides in your templates when possible. This will help accommodate customers with longer names or information that want to use your design.
INCORPORATING GLYPHS
Our customizer cannot currently accommodate glyphs in editable textboxes. If your design includes any glyphs that are attached to customizable text, these glyphs need to either be removed from your design entirely, or be outlined and separated from customizable text.
A good way to check if your text has glyphs is to check the Open Type panel in Illustrator and see if any of the style buttons are turned on. Turning these off will remove any glyphs or ligatures from your text.
USE TRUE TEXTBOXES
A crucial step in creating textboxes in your files is to click and drag with the text tool, not simply click. The action of clicking and dragging creates a “true” textbox that will work properly in our customizer and allow more text to fit in this space if a customer desires. A great way to check if your textbox is correct is to try to resize one in your file. If you notice the text warps/stretches, this means your textbox needs to be revised.
