Technical Limits of Foil on Site

While Illustrator allows ultimate flexibility in how foil textures can be displayed in your files, there are currently a few limitations on how we're able to display foil texture on site. 

• We have limited foil options for each color

  • We currently have either 1 or 3 options for each foil color. To ensure that all foil colors display well on the site, we don't currently offer all 3 options for each foil color. 
  • See the table at the bottom of this article for an overview of the current foil options for each color.
  • The foil colors available for a product vary depending on the assortment. For more information about which colors are available to use, please see our Foil Master List FAQ.

• We're currently limited to one clipping mask and texture per artboard

  • While we encourage creative freedom in your submitted files, keep in mind that our team may need to make some adjustments to the foil while preparing your design for launch.
  • Our team will combine all the foil artwork into one compound path and a clipping mask using one foil image. This is a necessary step to create a foil die for our printing teams and to ensure that the foil will display correctly on the category pages and customizer. 

• When launched on-site, the foil texture can't be scaled or adjusted

  • Due to technical site constraints, we are currently limited in how we can display the foil in our thumbnail images, product details pages, and customizer. The foil texture will always be the same size as the artboard.
  • Keep the whole foil image in mind while choosing the default foil color option, especially in designs with larger foil-pressed elements or light full-bleed photos.
  • We want to make sure your foil designs look perfect when they launch on site, so our team may swap the foil texture for another image if they feel the current one will cause legibility issues. You can reach out to us at [e-mail] if you’d like to request a change to any of your foil designs.
