The artist signature is a required file for all artists who have received a win in one of our non-custom art Challenges. The signature will communicate your identity as a serious artist, and is a highly-requested feature from Minted customers, who believe that artist signatures increase the value of the print.
If we do not have your Artist Signature on file, we are unable to launch your winning art print. Please make sure that you upload this asset as soon as possible!
If a customer chooses to have a signature on their print, the artist signature will be signed (using a signature machine) in pencil in the right-hand corner of the limited edition print.
This signature can be quite different from the hand-written name that we request you create for your Artist Store. Because of this, we ask you to provide a different file for your artist signature.
Below, we’ve included some tips to keep in mind while creating your artist signature. You will also find a step-by-step guide on creating and uploading your signature.
- NOTE! You can only upload your artist signature file once. As such, please double check your signature file to make sure everything looks perfect before submission.
- Your signature file should not use fonts, typefaces, or logos.
- You'll need to upload a file on a 100% transparent background.
How will the signatures appear on the pieces?
This is how the signature will appear on your art piece with a file you upload:
How to create and upload your artist signature:
- Write the signature that you would like to have appear on your artwork on a white piece of paper with a black pen. We ask that you use a black medium ballpoint pen (one with a ballpoint of approximately 1.0mm, and a line width of 0.4mm). Please do not use a gel ink pen or re-trace your signature, as it’s important that the width of the signature is consistent throughout.
- Scan or take a photograph of your signature.
- Open your file in Photoshop and go to: Select > Color Range.
- Eyedrop the darkest part of your signature and set the 'Fuzziness' bar to maximum (200).
-
Hit 'OK'. This will make a selection of your signature.
-
Go to Layer > New > Layer Via Copy or click Command+J.
- Hide the layer that contains your original scanned image by clicking the eye icon next to the layer.
- Select the entire canvas by hitting command+A.
- Make the signature 100% black by going to Edit > Fill and selecting "BLACK" under the "Content:" menu. IMPORTANT: make sure Preserve Transparency is checked! Hit 'OK'.
- Crop and/or resize the image to make it fit nicely within 415 x 120 pixels.
- Save the image as a png to retain transparency.
- Finally, upload the png you’ve created to http://www.minted.com/my-store/welcome
Note: If you do not have Photoshop or are having issues creating or uploading your signature, our art production team is able to assist. Please send a photo of your signature written in black ink on white paper to files@minted.com and we will help create your signature file for you.
As a reminder, if we do not have your Artist Signature on file, we are unable to launch your winning art print!
