FAQs for Minted's Fine Art Customization Service
What types of customizations will Minted offer?
Customers can request custom color, size, crop, zoom and/or orientation. For children’s art, the customer can add text. If the customer requests adding new elements to the design (aside from text on children’s art), we will recommend they contact the artist directly about commissioned art.
Will the artist be aware of the changes on a piece-to-piece basis?
No - the Minted Fine Art Specialists will work directly with the customer on the customization requests. We will not involve the artist in the process as it will take too long. If the customer requests adding new elements or original work, we suggest they contact the artist directly about commissioned art.
Can I opt-in for only some types of changes but not all? For example, I am happy to offer size or orientation changes but do not want to allow color changes.
At this time, when you opt-in, you will allow the customer to request changes to color, size, crop, zoom, and/or orientation. For children’s art, the customer can add text. We do not have the ability to allow artists to opt into some types of changes but not others.
If the customer requests original art or the addition of new elements to the artwork (aside from text on children’s art), we will direct them to contact you about a commissioned piece.
Are you offering customization on Limited Editions? If so, how does that work?
We will offer customization on Limited Editions if the artist has opted in. To be conservative, we will count the custom art print towards the closest size-color version of the original print. Some customizations will be very minor. With this approach, we will ensure we never sell more than 350 of any color-size combination.
For example, if I order a custom 5 x 7.25, the closest standard size is 5 x 7, so the customized print would count toward the 5 x 7 size. For custom color, the user still has to select a base color as their starting point, and they request tweaks. So, for custom color, the print would still count toward the original base color.
Will this option be offered on only vector art?
We will offer this option on all designs the artist has opted in, whether vector or JPEG.
Will the quality be affected by size, crop, and zoom?
The Fine Art Specialists will make sure the customer’s requests will result in a high-quality print. If the request will lead to a pixelated or otherwise low-quality print, the Specialists will communicate with the customer and adapt the request or cancel and refund the order. For size, we will have rules on the website so that the customer cannot order a size that is larger than the largest size we offer for the design.
Will custom art include the artist’s signature?
For launch, custom art will not include the artist’s signature.
Can I change my mind later? If I opt-in now, can I change my mind and “turn off” customization later?
Yes, you can contact Artist Relations at artists@minted.com if you would like to turn “off” customization for any reason.
How will the artist be compensated?
The artist will be compensated as they are for non-custom art (10% commission on the unframed piece) since Minted is incurring the extra cost of customization.
Can I opt-in for pieces myself?
Yes, you now can opt-in for customizations per piece while launching the project! In the project flow from your My Projects page, you'll see this checkbox at the top of the page:
Simply check the box to opt your piece in for customization.
Is customization available for self-launch?
Yes! Follow the same project flow above to opt-in.
