Generative AI Policy and FAQs

What is Minted's Policy on Generative AI usage? 

Per our Terms & Conditions, Generative AI tools are only allowed for editing and file production workflows. 

AI tools are embedded into Adobe Software. Our goal is to empower artists to take advantage of some of these tools to have more flexibility and efficiency within their creative workflows. Artists are responsible for ensuring they understand Minted's AI policy and that their work meets these requirements. 

Generative AI tools may not be used to: 

• Generate an entire photo or work of art for submission
• Generate a complete stationery design
• Generate an icon or an illustration within a broader design, composition, or pattern
• Generate an entire pattern with AI-generated elements, such as for the back of a card

In the interest of using this technology to support creative human work, approved generative AI tools may be used to: 

• Ideate and brainstorm 
• Create an art statement or generate design tags
• Create alternate colorways 
• Minor retouches of photos or works of art 
• Extend the edges of photos or fine art images 
• Extend or retouch Minted photo kit photos 
• Turn a non-AI-generated element into a repeating pattern

Approved AI Tools: 

• For design workflows and editing, Minted artists are only permitted to use Adobe generative AI tools
• For text-based workflow tasks such as generating design tags and artist statements, text-based generative AI tools such as ChatGPT are permitted

Updated Checkbox Language

Beginning March 2025, our submission checkbox will include the following language:

My submission is my original work, meaning that I originated the concept and I didn't copy or borrow from the work of others, in whole or in part. I affirm that I have read and understand Minted’s policy regarding the acceptable use of generative AI tools, and that my submission meets these requirements. I understand Minted has the right to remove or decline work it suspects to have not followed any of the terms & conditions, including its AI policy. 

FAQs: 

Can I use AI-Generated Stock Art?

No. As always, any stock art must be cited appropriately at the submission stage and include a license which permits Minted to reproduce and distribute for sale such third-party art, without payment of any royalty by Minted or any other limitations to use the art for reproduction items for resale. Our team will review submissions including stock art to ensure they meet our guidelines. Knowingly including AI-generated stock imagery is against our policy. 

What generative AI tools can I use? 

Minted artists are only permitted to use tools within Adobe Suite for any generative AI use for any image-related workflows and editing. Adobe uses public domain images and properly licensed stock images for the vast majority of its training data. Adobe states that 5% of the images used to train Firefly were images created by Midjourney, another generative AI model. While Adobe’s approach is not perfect, we believe it currently has the most ethical approach of the large AI models that are commercially available. 

Generative tools such as ChatGPT are permitted for text-related workflow tasks such as generating design tags and artist statements.

What do I do if I suspect a design doesn't meet these guidelines? 

We expect artists to abide by our terms and conditions and understand our policies before submitting. We do not expect artists to police the work of others. However, if you have a concern about a specific design, you may complete our Flag a Design form for our team to review.

What happens to artists who violate these guidelines? 

Our team will ensure that artists understand these requirements. We reserve the right to remove a design if we suspect or confirm it does not adhere to our policy. Additionally, artists with a pattern of violating any of our terms & conditions may receive a temporary or permanent suspension from the Minted platform.

Can I self-launch AI-generated work? 

No. All self-launched artwork must meet these same policy guidelines.

Can I sell AI-generated work on Minted’s Marketplace? 

No. All work sold on Minted must meet these same policy guidelines.
