A repurpose is a design that draws on design elements from an artist’s existing (winning) design so that it can be sold in another Minted category. A design is considered a repurpose when design elements* are identical or very similar to an existing design.
*Design elements are defined by Minted as:
- Overall concept
- Imagery
- Copy
- Layout
- Color
- Type
- Medium

What is NOT a repurpose?
A design is not deemed a repurpose when a designer significantly alters or adds new artwork for their submission. Significantly altering means spending a substantial amount of time editing or creating new design elements on an existing design, similar to the amount of time you might invest in creating a design from scratch.
Examples of designs that are NOT repurposes:
Artist: Kate Ahn
Is this a repurpose? No
Why? This design drew inspiration from the original and used a design element (the painterly swashes), but required significant rework. The layout is also different to accommodate a photo.

Artist: Maja Cunningham
Is this a repurpose? No
Why? While both designs use a similar illustration, the illustration has been significantly modified to best fit each design.
What are the benefits of Minted repurposing my design?
Repurposes are an excellent opportunity to increase sales potential of a successful design across multiple Minted categories (with less work than creating a whole new design). We’ve removed the repurpose request form for artists to fill out during the submission period of a Challenge. On average, we found that this was not an effective way for artists to have their work be repurposed into our assortment. The Minted team will instead focus on finding repurpose opportunities for artists to preserve artist ROI, and allow artists to focus their creativity on creating new, fresh designs.
