We are looking for patterns that work well on our large format products (e.g. chairs, curtains, or quilts). When creating artwork digitally, it’s important to create the the artwork at a size that is similar to the end product to ensure the highest resolution on the finished product (e.g., see bedding template here). For other types of artwork like a painting, the quality of the pattern on a large format product is dependent on the digital replication of the original artwork which is determined by the device and technique used to capture it. If you would like your artwork to be considered for large format products, please consider these helpful tips:
Our largest format products have these measurements:
Full Size Bedding: 68" x 88” piece (20400 px x 26400 px @ 300ppi)
King Size Bedding: 108” x 92” piece (32,400 px x 27,600 px @ 300ppi)
Digital Art:
If you are working in Photoshop or Illustrator, it’s helpful to create your document at a size similar to the final product at 300 ppi. Please test print a section of your work at actual size to make sure your image is high quality and the scale makes sense.
If you work with vector art: No problem! Vector art can be infinitely scaled.
Paintings:
If you are submitting a painting and would like to be considered for some of our larger format products, please reference the charts below on how to best digitize your original artwork based on its size:
68" x 88": Full Size Bedding @ 300 ppi
Original Art Size |
Minimum Resolution of Scan |
8" x 10" - 16" x 20" |
2500-1200 DPI |
18" x 24" - 30" x 40" |
900-600 DPI |
108 x 92: King Size Bedding @ 300 ppi
8" x 10 - 16 x 20 |
3200 - 1600 DPI |
18 x 24 - 30 x 40 |
1300 - 800 DPI |
In order to digitize your painting successfully, use a scanner that scans between 900 and 2000 ppi (most print shops have scanners that can scan up to 950 or 1200 ppi, and some have even larger). Many home scanners can scan up to 4800 dpi.
If you are submitting a painting at 30” x 40” and higher, the best solution is to "grid" out your work and photograph each grid segment individually, and then stitch together in Photoshop or similar program.
Please Note: For large scale print submissions, we may ask artists to send their highest resolution file before winners are announced so we can determine if a piece is able to meet our resolution standard for our large format products. We’d like to help artists meet these standards as much as possible and this will allow us to assess what we can do to improve the file. For example, if the piece was originally a painting that you still have, we can look into helping you have the piece professionally scanned.
